The Vilnius University Endowment was established with a view to building an inviolable capital fund, and using the investment proceeds to ensure the financial stability of the University, to support the highest quality research and study programmes, to support financially the internships of the most gifted students and teachers, to attract the best teachers and researchers from foreign countries, and to promote other projects creating high added value.

The mission of the Endowment is to ensure the global competitiveness of Vilnius University as a national cradle of science and culture by referring to its historical expertise, current ambitions and future prospects.

The Endowment brings together members of the society willing to contribute to the strengthening of the competitiveness of Vilnius University on the global stage.

LAYING THE CORNERSTONE OF THE ENDOWMENT

The Vilnius University Endowment was established on April 6, 2016 and became the first university endowment in Lithuania to be financed through returns of the fund's capital. The founding treaty was signed by the first three investors: Rimantas Kraujalis (on behalf of Ekspla UAB), Prof. Algis Petras Piskarskas (on behalf of Šviesos Konversija UAB) and entrepreneur Alvydas Žabolis.

The foundations established by universities and financed through returns of the fund's capital are widespread in such countries as the USA and Great Britain, and are known for their successful operation. More than 80 university foundations in the USA have already accumulated over a billion dollars. The Harvard Foundation for Intercultural and Race Relations (USA) has around 36 billion dollars while the Cambridge Foundation (UK) is worth over 8 billion pounds.

The investors of the first endowment in Lithuania introduced a new standard to the society that understands very well the importance of investing into the future of the nation and wishes to contribute to the competitive ability of the oldest and largest institution of higher education in Lithuania.

We invite the leaders in business, science and society as well as all those who understand the importance of investment in the country’s future and its talented people, and those who believe the oldest Alma Mater to be the best provider of education for the intellectuals of Lithuania, to join the promoters of this idea.
